AI Safety & Ethics
Being a great builder means being a responsible one. Let's learn how to be a hero in the world of AI by using our powers for good. Ready? π¦Έ
Key Concepts
Why it matters: An AI with bias might unfairly deny someone a loan or a job opportunity, just based on bad data.
Why it matters: It becomes super important to question what you see online and not spread false information.
Why it matters: Your data is valuable. Protecting it stops people from knowing things about you that you haven't chosen to share.
Why it matters: Being a responsible builder earns you trust and helps make the internet a better, safer place for everyone.
Dive Deeper: Hallucinations vs. Misinformation
You'll hear the term "hallucination" a lot. That's when an AI confidently makes up facts. "Misinformation" is the *spread* of false info, whether it came from a hallucinating AI or a person. As a builder, your job is to prevent both!
The AI Builder's Code
An AI draws a funny picture for you. Your friend thinks you drew it yourself! What do you do?
The Three Principles of a Great Builder:
Principle #1: Be Honest About Your Tools
If AI helped you create something, say so! It's cooler to show people *how* you used the tool than to pretend you did it all yourself. Great builders share their secrets.
Principle #2: Question Everything
AI can "hallucinate" and make up facts. Always double-check important info with a trusted source. A smart builder is a skeptical builder.
Principle #3: Think About Your Impact
Before you share your creation, ask: Could this hurt someone? Could it spread a lie? Builders think about how their work affects the world.

Your Challenge
Can You Spot the Fake?
Your mission is to be an AI Detective! AI art often has weird details, like too many toes or a blurry, nonsensical background. Based on the descriptions, which image was made by an AI?
Clue: Look for details that don't make sense, like on the paws or the background!
Fact or Hallucination?
An AI chatbot just told us that the Great Wall of China is the only man-made object visible from the moon. Is that a fact or an AI hallucination? Your mission is to use trusted sources (like NASA's website or National Geographic) to confirm or bust this myth. Report your findings back to Mission Control (your parents or a notebook!).
Build a "Responsible AI" Infographic
Go beyond learningβstart teaching. Your mission is to create a simple, shareable infographic about the 4 Key Concepts of AI Ethics.
- 1Use an AI image generator like Microsoft Designer to create a unique icon for AI Bias, Deepfakes, Data Privacy, and Responsible Use. Pro-tip: try prompts like "icon for data privacy, simple logo, flat design".
- 2Use a free design tool like Canva to arrange your four AI-generated icons into a clean infographic. Add a short, one-sentence explanation for each.
- 3Share your finished infographic with a friend or family member. You just practiced using AI responsibly to teach others about... using AI responsibly!

Let's Talk About It
This is a great time to talk with your young builder about what they've learned. Hereβs a good conversation starter: "If we were making our own family rules for using AI, what would be our #1 most important rule?" This helps them think critically and apply these safety concepts at home.
